Mitchell ("Mitch") McIntire was called home on January 16, 2024. Born in Gainesville, Georgia on April 8, 1997, Mitch was a beloved friend to all -- including our namesake Knox Martin. Mitch and Knox grew up together, attending Lakeview academy for middle school, participating in scouts for many years, and eventually becoming Eagle Scouts together in high school. The two remained close friends well into college and after graduation until Knox lost his life to brain cancer in 2020.

We at the Knox Martin Foundation are so grateful to have known Mitch as a dedicated and constant supporter of our mission to fund innovative research on the most aggressive forms of brain cancer. Mitch honored Knox's legacy with the time and energy he dedicated as a supporter of KMF from the very beginning. He attended Night For Knox—our annual fundraising gala in Atlanta, Georgia—in its inaugural year, and every year thereafter. We will forever miss Mitch, cherish his heart for KMF, and remember the way he served the KMF community.

Mitch's family has requested that those wishing to remember Mitch consider making a contribution to the Knox Martin Foundation, a cause that was very close to Mitch's heart.

Together, we are going to fund the next breakthrough in brain cancer research in honor of Knox and in honor of Mitch—two young men, two friends, whose lives were taken from us far too soon.

The Knox Martin Foundation was founded in honor and loving memory of Knox Martin, who's life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with brain cancer in September 2017. Knox fought brain cancer for three inspiring years, and succumbed to the clutches of Glioblastoma in December 2020. He was 24 years old when he passed.

Our mission is to fund innovative research on aggressive brain cancers to give Warriors like Knox a shot at a longer life. Our vision is a world where a GBM diagnosis is treatable and curable. We work directly with medical research partners at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke to fund innovative research for clinical trials and life saving treatments.
