Who we are. What we do.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the deadliest, most aggressive form of brain cancer. Despite being first identified in scientific literature in the 1920s, there are only four FDA-approved drugs to treat GBM. Four in 100 years. For GBM, the five-year relative survival rate is only 7.2% and median survival is only 8 months after diagnosis. Despite these statistics, brain cancer research receives only 2% of all cancer research funding in the United States and remains the leading cause of cancer-related death in children and the tenth in adults. These devastating statistics attest to the severely underfunded and under-researched nature of brain cancer treatments – particularly treatments for glioblastoma.

Founded in the face of glioblastoma, both Gray for Glioblastoma and about KMF's landmark projects at Duke born out of the loss of loved ones to this devastating disease. Driven by personal experience and urgency, both organizations are dedicated to funding innovative research, increasing awareness, and breaking the cycle of underfunding that has stalled progress for decades. Together, they share a commitment to advancing critical studies, supporting patients and families, and creating a future where a glioblastoma diagnosis is no longer defined by limited options, but by HOPE.

Since The Knox Martin Foundation's inception in 2021, the organization has given over $1.5 MILLION in research grant funds to support 5 landmark projects at the Duke Brain Tumor Center. Collectively, they show how the generosity of our donors fuels progress across the entire spectrum of brain tumor research—from discovery to direct patient impact. Gray for Glioblastoma has gifted over $250,000 to support GBM research projects at leading cancer centers, including Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles / Saban Research Institute, and The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke—while simultaneously building a hopeful, positive space for those impacted by providing resources, fostering community, and raising awareness through our social platforms and events.
